About The Artist

Realistic Painter with a preference in pastel or oil paintings of landscape, portraiture, still life, wildlife, equestrian,  sporting art, and Native American culture, with a special study interest in painting the women of the West.  The artist is from the Flathead Valley of Western Montana and now lives in Post Falls, Idaho.

Shirley works with a large range of artistic media, namely: pastels, oils, watercolor, acrylics, & three-dimensional sculptures.  A painter, using a representational/imagery style, creates her artistic stories using landscapes, portraiture, still life and wildlife.  Her works are found in both private & public collections throughout the United States, Canada, & Europe.

She has owned & operated three art galleries.  All galleries included a working studio open to the public so that people could observe and become involved with the creation of an artwork.

She is a selected artist for the Franklin Mint and Leanin' Tree Publishing Company.  She has also been published by "Bowhunter" magazine with one of her works of a running wolf.  She has lectured at colleges in Montana and Washington state.  She was invited to participate in a taped interview for Montana State University and lectured a special presentation for the Washington State Food & Drug Administration during Womens' History month.

Shirley has also participated in juried competitions and is the recipient of many Best of Show and other special awards, including Washington State Ducks Unlimited and, while living in Montana, was a Central Flyaway Print artist for the National Ducks Unlimited.  She has also participated with the National Pastel Society in New York and has had one-woman exhibitions in Chicago, Arizona, Montana, Idaho, & Maui.  She has been featured on live television talk shows in Des Moines, Iowa, and Kalispell, Montana.

She is listed in American Artists of Renown (1982), Contemporary Western Artists (1982), Personalities of America (1987), and Davenport's Art Reference (2006), and other various books & publications. 

Shirley is a member of the Pastel Society of America, and is in the Library & Research Center of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C.
